“Where [they] lead, I will follow [them]… Any-Anywhere that [they] tell me to” is basically how I feel about the TV show that this theme song belongs to. Gilmore Girls was a very popular show when it was on the air between 2000 to 2007, I definitely knew a lot of people who watched it regularly. Of course, just like with a lot of the other popular shows, I caught on to it pretty late in the game, watching the series only in 2010 I think… the whole seven seasons at once. While watching the show, I was going through a pretty stressful exam period at Carleton, so this show was what I could always look forward to as a reward at the end of every day.
My strong connection with Gilmore Girls was not only because of the time when I watched it, but also because I really felt like I could relate to the characters and quickly grew very attached to them. The close mother/daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory reminds me of me and my mom, and not only because of how much we also love coffee hehe. I often tell this to people, because I feel like it’s the best way that they can understand our relationship… it’s not just a mother/daughter relationship, but also a friendship. Then there’s the infamous Emily Gilmore, mother to Lorelai and grandmother to Rory… her and her husband’s parenting style is also something I am familiar with. This generational parenting difference is a common issue with families, which is of course entertaining to watch, but also interesting for me, as it’s part of the field I studied. I guess I’m a sucker for the emotional shows that make me really feel for the characters, almost like I’m a part of their family, and Gilmore Girls does this really well.
I also have to say, another reason I love this show is Lauren Graham, the actress who plays Lorelai, I absolutely love her. It’s not only her role in the series, but I’m also a huge fan of her acting in general. I saw her again as one of the main characters in Parenthood, and it made me ecstatic to be able to watch her on TV again for the full six seasons. So, you can imagine how excited I am for the Gilmore Girls revival show that’s coming out on Netflix soon. I have been waiting and waiting for this too happen, well at least since 2010 that is. Stumbling upon the video (click link for article) of Graham on the Ellen Degeneres Show seriously made me ecstatic… two of my favorite celebrities in one place! I loved every minute of the video, especially her running in with her shoes in her hands, quite classy! The best bit of information? The name of the revival show is now official… it’s going to be: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life… four 90-minute episodes, one for each season 🙂
