So, the other day, my mom hosted a really nice Japanese-themed dinner for a few close friends. She had recently tried out (and of course succeeded with) a new recipe for salmon burgers and thought that this could be the beginning of an exciting Japanese style dinner. When she mentioned the idea to our friends, they all brought in a few ideas for their contributions. Among the delicious treats that were planned, our dear friends David and Dario offered to make for us a Japanese pancake type meal called Okonomiyaki.
A food I had never heard of?? Being the food fan that I am, I was definitely intrigued. Then, once I tasted it, I was officially hooked. What amazing cooks our friends are!! This deliciously light and fluffy Japanese delicacy was like a dream come true for my taste-buds. All the delicate flavors were such a perfect mix together. I absolutely needed to know how to make this dish, so I requested the recipe… yes, I know I am not quite what I would call ‘kitcheny’, but I swear that one day in my future, I will face this challenge… so worth it!
I highly recommend trying out this recipe! Here are some of the specialty ingredients that are needed (can be found at the T&T Supermarket) :
- bonito flakes
- okonami sause
- Japanese mayo
- nagaimo (Japanese mountain yam, or Chinese yam)
