People often ask me what I spend my days doing now that I’m out of work. While on an emotional level this question kinda sucks, it also makes me think… what HAVE I been doing? My head answers the question super quickly with the short phrase 24. What does this mean, you ask? It means I have been spending most of my spare time lately (other than when I’m blogging, of course) watching the popular, although slightly older, TV show 24. I had been a little hesitant about trying this show out, because from everything I had head, it didn’t sound like the shows that I typically enjoy watching. Wow, was I wrong! This long series shows the life of Jack Bauer, who works for the government to help them stop terrorist attacks from happening. The main thing always dealt with in this show is seeing how far he will go to protect his country. What is he willing to sacrifice? Where does he draw the line?
What I think is so great about this show is that each season plays in real time, going through one whole day, an hour per episode. Super cool, don’t ya think? At first I was a bit concerned, because I thought the eight seasons of the show portraying only eight days in a row would be kinda strange, but I soon found out that they actually skip time between seasons, which makes it so much more interesting. Following these super intense days is so exciting, I don’t think any other show has made me this captivated. I am constantly sitting at the edge of my seat, almost literally! The story-lines are so crazy and have such super cool twists and surprises along the way, I just can never pull myself away. I love nothing more in a show/movie than when a well-liked character shocks everyone and turns out to be ‘bad’. Well, this happens a lot in 24, so fun to watch!
Jack Bauer was played by Kiefer Sutherland, what a great actor, this character had to go through so many intense emotions. A personal favorite of mine was his sidekick Chloe O’Brian, the cute and quirky computer genius. Mary Lynn Rajskub portrayed this character so well, I fell in love with her right at the beginning. Right now, Gen and I are still in the midst of watching 24: Live Another Day, which is basically the 9th and last season of the show.
While doing some research, Gen came across an article saying that a new installment of 24 is coming out this year!! The big shocker with this is that it’s the first installment that won’t have Kiefer Sutherland in it and will instead have a female main character, so very exciting!
