Honestly, I’m not always a huge fan of reality TV shows. But, as Gen has often found some that I do like, I figured I would give this one a try, especially seeing as I am a Supernanny fan. Apparently there are two versions of The World’s Strictest Parents, one in the UK (that I watched today) and the other takes place in the USA. Starting in 2008 and 2009 respectively, they both went on for about two to four years. I’m sure I’ve talked about it before, but I went to school for six years to study child development, so these shows are really interesting for me, lots to learn. Also, I feel like I am allowed to have an opinion, even if it’s a bad one hehe. But in all seriousness, there is definitely more than one right way to parents your kids, so not everyone has to agree or have the same style.
We watched two episodes so far, and I really liked it! In each episode, they pick two teenagers who are having trouble at home, usually when it comes to following their parents’ rules. The idea is that they are placed with another family for a whole week, without having any contact whatsoever with their own parents. These families have what they would call The World’s Strictest Parents and a few kids of their own. During this week, they have to abide by the rules of this family, or deal with whatever consequences they get. Even though I have only seen two of the episodes, I really found them interesting… I always love seeing how other people live their lives. But wow, this show can get super intense! It often shocks me how far some teenagers are able to go… talking back, swearing, refusing to do things, etc. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but my parents really had it easy with me 🙂
