It all started around 1997, nineteen years ago… my love for her started while watching My Best Friend’s Wedding on a plane flight home from Hungary with my dad. It was love at first sight… the unrequited kind, of course. I was 8 years old, sitting on a plane, feeling sad to be leaving my family in Hungary, but of course as a kid, I was quickly cheered up by the movie they were playing. My Best Friend’s Wedding was on that little TV screen in front of us… even though I was confused about the adult-centered movie, I was still intrigued and naively asked my dad who these people were. He briefly explained to me who Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts were, and that was that. Still to this day, almost two decades later, I don’t know exactly why it is, but I am just a sucker for Julia Roberts’ movies.
I remember shortly after this plane flight, my grandmother came and stayed with us for a while, and we re-watched the movie and I enthusiastically explained my new favorite actress to my grandma. She still asks me to this day whenever we talk, if my favorite actress is still Julia Roberts… my answer is always a firm yes! One of my other favorite related memories was watching Pretty Woman with my dad.. will never forget asking him, “Daddy, what’s a prostitute?” The look on his face was priceless, oh the horror of your eight year old daughter asking you this question! I think Pretty Woman is one of my favorite movies with her, such a classic. Other movies that I love are Stepmom, Notting Hill (in the GIF below), Runaway Bride, August: Osage County, and America’s Sweethearts. Now, of course this is not all of them, I really have enjoyed every movie I’ve seen her in hehe.
Anyways, I swear there is a point to this ramble of a blog entry… I have Julia-news. Two super exciting things:
- There’s a TV show coming out based on My Best Friend’s Wedding! They are apparently making a sequel to the movie, as a TV sitcom. With new actors (sadly) playing Julianne and best friend George, starting after the wedding. This should be interesting! Only time will tell if it’ll be a hit or a flop…
- New movie coming out next year with Roberts in it! ‘Wonder’ looks like it will be an amazing movie about a mother (Julia) raising her young son who has special needs (played by the uber talented Jacob Tremblay from Room). I seriously cannot wait for this to come out!
