A lot of parents will do anything for their kids – except let them be themselves.
I came across this quote that my friend Kevin posted on his blog. It really caught my attention. The feeling of safety AKA knowing that they can be themselves is definitely important for them. Unconditional love can go a long way when raising a child.
I also just happened to watch an episode of The Mentalist today that was about a gay young man who’s father was not exactly accepting of this. Well, for those of you who I haven’t talked to about the show, it is about crimes, so sadly I’m sure you can kinda see where this is going. I cannot get enough of this show, love the characters and the stories, and this was definitely one of my favorite episodes so far. I loved the ginormous twist at the end of the episode, showing the gay teen living the life he wants and the “bad guys” getting what they deserve. Yayyah! One of the first murder episodes with a happy ending I’ve ever seen hehe. I really am a sucker for these stories. I think it’s so important for kids/teens to know that they can be whoever they want to be.
