I Kid You Not

I feel like everyone has something about themselves that they don’t like, and everyone else always tells us it’s not really a big deal. What is this thing for me? My height! Or, shall I say ‘lack thereof’? I’ve never been a very tall person, and seeing as I’m 27, it really doesn’t seem like I ever will be hehe. Most days, I don’t think about this much, it just is what it is. But, there are times, like in a grocery store, when my height stops me from reaching my goals… AKA the snack on the top shelf. Yeah… can lead to some embarrassing moments 🙂 But, I can usually just move past all these moments with a little smirk and chuckle. I mean, who cares if I look like a 12 year old boy, right? But, ya know, even though I always try really hard to be the “bigger person” (no pun intended), I should admit that sometimes it’s a bit harder than usual, I find. Like today, while ordering a burger at Wendy’s, the cashier asked me if I wanted it to be a kid’s meal. Yes, this could have just been a question she is supposed to ask regardless of who the customer is, so not sure if this really qualifies. But, there have been some different cases…

Worst case: Gen and I went into a diner on Bank street a few years ago, and when the waitress saw us, she immediately asked if I was Gen’s son. Seriously?! Even if she thought that was the case, did she really have to ask? Or, another example… a few weeks ago, Gen and I spent the night at a hotel (birthday gift from my mom), and decided to check out their lounge. There were alcoholic beverages there, so everyone had to be at least 18 to get in. Gen and I walk in, and a waiter looks at us, literally with his mouth gaping. When I say hi to him to break the awkward silence, he jerks his head backwards and says, “Oh, I’m sorry, I though that was a kid!” Did he really have to point it out? If he had already realized I’m not a child, he could have attempted to not say anything, I would have thought. Anyways, I’m really not trying to just rant here, because that’s not what this blog is about, but I really just like observing things like this. People really should not assume anything, because well, you know what they say? When you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME 🙂
