Gen and I will be getting ready to take our pet rats out to play later on today. We try to do this every day. Even though it seems like an extra hassle, it always winds up being quite enjoyable. Owning rats as pets seems to carry a stigma with it, as people typically associate pet rats with street rats, which are indeed quite undesirable.
While I fully understand the concern and unfamiliarity with owning pet rats, I will take this time to share a picture or two of our little ones… Hope you enjoy! 🙂
On top is a slightly blurry picture of me holding my rat Joey… the albino one, which I prefer to call the zombie rat 🙂 Below, is Gen’s rattie Marshall, and then lastly is a picture of the two young brothers cuddling together in their cage. Unlike the cats we previously had, I find that rats are just as cute, with the added bonus of being able to keep them in a cage most of the time… eliminating several pet-owning hassles. Apparently rats can be trained to do tricks just like dogs can. So far, we have only attempted the trick of teaching these little guys their names. We have yet to discover the other types of tricks they can learn.
What are your thoughts / concerns about owning a pet rat? (I know the tail is often an issue for people…. understandably so!)
