Have you ever gone through your old stuff from years ago? You know, that old box collecting dust in your storage area? Or that bin of old school things from back in grade school? How does it make you feel? Is it weird? Is it sad? Does it make you happy? Isn’t it crazy how even the smallest little objects can make you feel so many things? These situations create great scenes in movies too… you get that person trying to get over a breakup and burst into tears at an apple… “s/he really loved eating apples… even the red ones, just like that day tha- waaaah!” It makes for a good laugh on TV, but in real life, it can suck. Anyways, there is a point I’m trying to get to here! Just earlier today, I went through a box of stuff from an old relationship, was quite entertaining. Thank goodness I’m way past the point where these items would have made me sad. They did make me wonder, though… I mean, old movie tickets, cards, etc. make sense, but some of those things… yikes! Seriously, why on earth would I have decided to keep a broken pair of plastic glow-stick-like glasses?! In what world would someone say, “Oh wow, these things will be so useful! These broken glasses will really help me out one day!“? I just really don’t see it. Crazy how that thing apparently meant something to me at some point in my life. Things really do change over time, don’t they? So many wise things I would love to go back and tell ‘Past-Zoey’! Could have helped myself quite a bit.
What would you tell your past self?
Couldn’t help but add in this quote. Gotta love Ellen! 🙂
“When I look back on the stuff I used to wear, I wonder why somebody didn’t try to stop me. Just a friendly warning, ‘You may regret this,’ would have been fine.” – Ellen DeGeneres
