Life Partners portrayed the very close friendship between two friends, one of them being Gillian Jacobs, playing an adorably neurotic lawyer, and a very fun-loving lesbian Leighton Meester. For those of you who have seen the TV show Gossip Girl, you will probably agree that a free-spirit lesbian is not what you would imagine the character of Blair Waldorf portraying. I was amazed, what a talented actress!
At risk of sounding too mushy, I really want to emphasize how good a job this movie did at showing the strength of a close friendship. These two main characters have been best friends for years and are now in their late twenties, and going through major life milestones together. Also really important for me to point out that the presence of an OC-favorite of mine in this film… Adam Brody! Starring as Gillian Jacobs’ beau, my old favorite Seth Cohen does a great acting job as well. It’s The OC meets Gossip Girl… what could be better?!
As I always have a tendency to over-identify to the characters in anything I watch, well, here goes… Leighton Meester’s character is a lesbian receptionist / aspiring singer, who gets fired from her job. Having recently been let go from my reception job, I could not help but draw a few similarities here… also as I am an aspiring blogger / writer… as of three weeks ago, that is. Oh, and there’s also the lesbian thing of course.
On a more serious note I think this movie did a good job at showing the significance of friendships and how romantic relationships can affect them. When someone starts a serious relationship, it often brings some changes to their friendships. Issues like jealousy and changes in routines can come up. I think the title Life Partners might have something to do with this.
