A Very Generic Post About Not Giving Up

Hi there, my beautiful readers! Time for another post!

I’d like to start this one off with a little story from my childhood. Sounds fun, doesn’t? I swear, I have heard this story so many times over the years. This is the “if only you could always be like this…” story my awesome Dad uses. It’s kind of like hisย “rinse and repeat as needed” method. ๐Ÿ™‚

So, I’m about 7…ish…maybe, and I’m at home after school, using the very new and exciting thing called the internet. Oh, the good old days, when printing pictures off the internet was all new and shiny still Anyways! There I was, searching for pictures of Full House to print off and hang on my bedroom walls, when all of a sudden, the printer ran out of ink. For a seven year old child, this was clearly the end of the world. I had to fix it, there was no way that I could wait to have those lovely pictures on my wall. So, just like any other desperate child would do, I called my dad and begged him for help. As any father would do, my Dad calmly asked me to wait for him to came home from work and help me. I would have none of that, I was convinced that I could figure it out on my own. So, he reluctantly gave me the instructions and I followed them all and got it done. I remember the feeling, I would have done anything to get that printer working. When there’s that huge thing, that huge ball, or that huge obstacle to get past, it’s important not to give up… no matter how big that ball is. To this day, my Dad still reminds me of how persistent I was with that printer, and gently nudges me to “keep using this great quality”. Back in the day, I would just get annoyed, roll my eyes and think to myself, “yah yah, what does that even mean in real life?”ย  Now, as an adult, I’m more curious than annoyed.ย

Here are my latest theories on the topic…

How to ‘Persist’ and Not Give Up –ย Zoey Valuated-Style

P ositive – It’s cliche, but let’s be honest, being positive helps move along a lot of things in life.ย
E valuate – What’s the issue to be dealt with? What do you want to achieve? What can be done about it? All these lovely, annoyingly difficult questions… you know the drill ๐Ÿ™‚
R ealistic – Tryingย to bungee jump if you’re afraid of heights, or me trying to be an opera singer with my lack of a singing voice? While these may be glamorous goals, realistic they may not be.ย
S tubborn – People often use this word to describe me, and not always in a positive light hehe. My humble opinion? Being stubborn is a great thing ๐Ÿ™‚
I ncentive –ย My favourite part! Give yourself a reward for any progress, goals met, etc. Pick something exciting ๐Ÿ™‚
S pecific – Goals, plans, ideas… details are your friend ๐Ÿ™‚
T alk – Mentors, friends, family…. all good go-to’s for ya ๐Ÿ™‚

Persisting, not giving up, setting goals, hustling… I don’t know about you, but all these words sound so intimidating and over-ambitious to me. I’ll be even more honest here, I’m not great at all these things. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… those who can’t do, blog ๐Ÿ™‚

What do you guys think about all this? How do you deal with challenges and goals? Seriously, please let me know, I can use all the advice I can get ๐Ÿ™‚ Shoot away in the comments below!ย

Thanks in advance!

Until next time,

Great post!! I agree your tips are bang on…I would add โ€œpatienceโ€. Sometimes the path is not always clear or I tend to skip important steps in my haste to achieve my goal or complete a task but invariably it often means having to start over and that is disappointing or discouraging. Itโ€™s best to stay focussed, to take each step one at a time and keep your eye on the prize. Being patient pays off. When I succeed or complete whatever I am working on achieving, everything becomes clear…and provides such satisfaction…it may take time but as they say…good things come to those who wait.

I used to be like this and to be honest it stressed me out when I couldn’t get something done straight away. I’ve become more patient as Ive got older. Great post x
